2017 Lorie's Lakeside Century

Saturday, September 16th, 2017

Lorie’s Lakeside Century is for experienced riders, novices, individuals and groups – with routes of 26, 39, 62, 75 and 100 miles.  It’s a tour, not a race, so you can ride at any pace you choose.  The terrain is flat to gently rolling, hilly but no “killers.”  All routes travel to Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Ride through Victorian-era towns and farmland on scenic back roads and enjoy incredible views along Lake Michigan.  Rest and re-group at sag stops that highlight some of the spots we treasure.  And experience Hoosier Hospitality at its finest!

This year, the VNA reached out to the Valparaiso Family YMCA, whose cause is to stregethen the community in spirit, mind and body. The bicycle ride was a wonderful fit for the VNA as part of the wellness and rehabilitation program since 2008. Given the new focus of the VNA, the Valparaiso Family YMCA was asked to continue both the long history of success of the ride and provide an opportunity to help build a healthier community. The tour continues in memory of Lorie Kirkley, and proceeds will benefit the VALPARAISO FAMILY YMCA chronic disease programs supporting healthy lifestyes. The community chairperson, Jim Spanopoulos, began the ride more than 25 years ago and will continue to chair the committee in cooperation with the Valparaiso Family YMCA.
